Hey everyone! Welcome to a World Race travel day! Within 24 hours you’ll be in beautiful Costa Rica!! Buckle up, things are about to get wild…

10:00 – Walk up the slippery stairs in the freezing rain and cold to load the AIM vans. Turn up the worship and head to the airport!

11:15 – Arrive at the wrong terminal and start getting ready to sleep with your luxury sleeping pad on the floor.

11:30 – Realize you’re in the wrong terminal and figure out you need to get to the domestic terminal, but it isn’t walking distance at all.

12:00- Squeeze onto the shuttle to the domestic terminal with everyone and their packs.

12:15 – Arrive at the domestic terminal, scout for a place to sleep until you check your bags at 2:30 am

12:16 – Realize the JetBlue entrance is another million miles away. Cry while you drag your 50 lb pack to the terminal and completely ruin your airporter. If you find an abandoned luggage cart you better believe you’re REALLY blessed.

1:00 – Finally find a place to sleep and get yelled at or questioned by security/ random people for having a big group causally sleeping in the airport. Also a great time to get BK because you’re hungry and it’s the only option. But if you’re a world racer, chances are you can’t afford airport food anyway. Rip.

4:30 – Wake up because everyone around you is up. Realize you couldn’t check in when you were supposed to because no one was at the kiosk and your squad is now two hours behind schedule. But at least you got a good nap on the comfy airport floor and nothing got stolen (shoutout to the squadmates on watch, we love you) Go down and wait for the kiosks to open. Eat your pop tart.

5:00 – Realize you can’t check at the self check in so you get checked in at the counter one by one with your squad of 32 people, begin to realize you might miss your flight. Get asked to show your negative covid test but you ever took a screenshot, so pray they let you fly.

5:30- Speedwalk to tsa, forget to empty your water, get left behind, continue to go through tsa.

6:00- Take the train to the terminal, walk all the way to the end of the terminal.

6:20 – Board plane, discover the fancy jet blue wifi, tv, games, and movies.

7:00 – Take off and watch the sunrise from thousands of feet up! Sleep for a while

8:45 – Land in Ft. Lauderdale and realize that there’s a lot of people because it’s Florida and covid just doesn’t exist there. Airport food doesn’t really fit within your world race budget of $10, so decide if you’re having breakfast or lunch or coffee. A tough decision but abandonment. Roam around the airport or sleep during your five hour layover.

12:15 – Get ready to board as a squad and do a covid check!

1:00 – Board plane, sleep more.

3:40 CST – Arrive In Costa Rica!!! Go through customs and get baggage.

4:15 – Wait for your bus to get to AIM base!

4:50 – Drive off to base!

6:00 – Make it through traffic and arrive at the base! Have an authentic Costa Rican dinner as a squad! Enjoy the upgrade from a tent to a whole room and beds! (CR is niceeee) Get settled in, have a nice shower, and realize you live in Costa Rica!!! Sleep like a baby because 24 hour travel days are crazy.
